Please Pray

I really need prayer. I am struggling so badly right now and I don't know what to do. I have to switch classes because I can't keep up in my business class and I feel like such a failure. I don't know what I'm doing here anymore. Please pray. I need God right now and I'm having trouble hearing Him.

  1. Hey,

Sorry to hear you're in such a tight spot :x

However, I wouldn't feel bad for having to switch to a lighter load. Part of the reason you go abroad is to experience not only a different teaching style, but also a different LIFE style. If your class load is crippling, you'll never get to experience the latter, which would be a huge waste.

So while you should definitely care about your studies (and you obviously do), don't fret about having to re-arrange things to be a bit easier- it's hard enough to live in a radically different culture for a week, much less a semester, and you have to deal with classes, in addition.

I'm sure you'll be fine in the long run, and I'll definitely keep you in my thoughts!

Hope things take a turn for the better,
    Evan B.

  2. Hi Erika!

We're praying over here in Chicago!!! I can't imagine what it must be like to have to only speak in Chinese and be surrounded by this different language! I feel like you can study it as much as possible and still be unprepared for that kind of immersion. But I am confident that if anyone can do it, it's you! I'm confident that this language pledge will get easier slowly but surely, and by the end of the semester, you'll be so very comfortable speaking Chinese (and I'll be so very jealous)!

Don't ever feel like a failure for switching classes! No matter what classes you take, your experience there will be invaluable, and you will get so much out of it, linguistically, culturally, and also spiritually!

Psalm 90 says GOD is our dwelling place throughout all generations. Psalm 139 says there is NOWHERE we can go that He does not follow, Romans 8 says there is NOTHING that can separate us from His love, and in Joshua 1:9 God says "be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Throughout the Bible, God promises over and over "I will never leave you, nor forsake you" and Jesus is "the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13). In Jeremiah 29:11 God says "I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Romans 8 reassures us that "All things work together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose... What then shall we say? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

I am convinced that God is going to use this semester in a very significant way. But I also know how incredibly hard and lonely and overwhelming it must feel. Know that I'm praying for you!!!
